Do you spend a lot of time with your left elbow propped up on a desk, for example? Like, is your keyboard up higher than your desk level, causing you to rest your elbows on something, or do you prop your chin up with your hand while the arm rests on a table? If so, you're experiencing something called pressure neuropathy, which sounds really scary, but is actually just the pressure on the ulnar nerve (outer edge of the arm, stretching from the elbow) causing the sensation. It's normal and not a sign of anything bad.
I had this earlier this summer and was very concerned, but I consulted a doctor and that was the answer he gave me. Once I became conscious of what was causing the problem, I stopped putting pressure on my elbow and it stopped. Hope this helps. =)
