Monday, September 28th, 2009 by

Everybody has definitely experienced a headache once in his or her lifetime. Since it is one of the indispensable and common illnesses everyone experiences, people have learned to find ways to relieve the discomfort brought by headache.

REMEDYING HEADACHES

Headaches are usually caused by physical and emotional stress. If you are dying to find a solution to your persistent headache, try taking in over the counter remedies like aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen. But if you are not a big fan of prescribed or over the counter medications, try these home remedies for a change.

- Try using compresses or cold packs. For tension headaches-the most common form of headache-try applying a warm or cold compress to your forehead and the base of your neck to numb the pain.

- Try using heat. If cold compresses wouldn’t work out for you, try using a warm washcloth or a hot water bottle can ease pain.

- Develop a routine of deep breathing exercises. If you suffer from headaches very often, try sitting in a darkened room, take in deep breaths using your nose, and let it pass through your mouth.

- Experience the wonders of acupressure. By squeezing the web of skin between and the thumb through acupressure, it can reduce the pains and can help you relax.

- Try relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, and biofeedback. By trying these relaxation techniques, the person who suffers from headache can feel the pain flowing out of the head. It can also help reduce stress.

- Relieve the affected area by applying ointment with heat. Ben-Gay or Icy Hot rubbed on forehead or on the base of the neck, can give a soothing warm feeling to your head.

- The power of music. Try listening to a relaxing music while lying down or resting.

- Exercise regularly. Physical activities like regular exercise can relieve stress because it can loosen up the knots and balls of pain in your head.

- Get enough sleep. Having six to eight hours of sleep can help you soothe your tired nerves. But, beware of sleeping more than 10 hours because it can cause major headache as well.

- If possible, use a neck pillow in bed. If you are prone to experiencing morning headaches, try using a neck pillow to your neck while you sleep.

- Totally eliminate caffeine, salt, MSG, and chocolate in your diet. Load up on lots of fruits, veggies, and water to keep your body well hydrated.

- If you can, avoid bright light because it leads to a major headache once your squint.

- Don’t skip meals. Skipping meals can lead to low blood sugar. When your sugar level goes down, your blood vessels in the brain tightens that leads to headache.

- Don’t eat foods that have nitrates, sulfites, and msg because these are primary headache causers. Also avoid aged cheeses and nuts so you won’t experience headaches.

- Don’t smoke and avoid smoke-filled rooms.

If it’s a migraine, then take a warm towel and wrap it around your head as tight as you can stand it and lay down in a dark room with NO noise.
That’s what I do when I run out of my migraine medication.
Also, getting a soothing neck massage in a dark quiet room helps a little too. I usually go with the towel though it really helps.
You can also try just laying down and putting a cool towel on your forehead. Once again, it needs to be a dark, quiet room.
Good luck, I know headaches suck.

Go in a peaceful, quiet room. Turn off all lights, make it as dark as you can. Lay down, and try to go to sleep. This has helped me when I was out of advil ( i used to get migrane headaches often). Usually when I wake up I feel all or a lot better. I hope i helped and feel better soon! :)

If it is a throbbing headache, alternate a hot pack and a cold pack for 20 minutes at a time in the area where the throbbing is. This should relieve the pain and pressure and calm the throbbing.

The Supreme Court has ruled that Guantánamo isn't a part of the USA — that it's still a part of Cuba, but that the US has control of it (FYI, the Cuban government considers the U.S. presence in Guantánamo to be illegal). And by that US Supreme Court ruling, officially, the people being held prisoner without charge in Guantánamo are not being held in the USA and, therefore, USA laws don't apply. Also, the prisoners there have been ruled "enemy combatants" a term that originated in WWII, That means they don't have the same rights as POWs.

So, in short, there are no "remedies."

As the USA keeps saying that the Geneva Conventions don't apply to its dealings with "enemy combatants" and even prisoners in Iraq, it's only a matter of time before a foreign government does the same with USA troops and citizens and prisoners. And because of Guantánamo and the horrific, insulting photos and activities at Abu Ghraib, it will be very difficult for the USA to assume any moral high ground or claim any rights for its citizens in such an event.

I think this is the recipe in this g00gle book preview:

The oils you can find in supermarkets and just buy the cheapest as you don't need posh stuff for soap. Coconut oil might be difficult to locate if you depend on supermarkets. For coconut oil: you can try Asian stores as I have bought it from one before and it was quite cheap and you don't need posh stuff for soap. Lye crystals might be difficult to locate but you could try a hobby shop or a local hardware store that might stock them or if not might be able to get hold of them for you. Be sure to tell them what you want it for too. Be careful around lye as it is caustic.

    edit:
Do a lot of reading on soap making before you being as I read this on wikipedia under the sub-heading cold process:

"A cold-process soapmaker first looks up the saponification value of the fats being used on a saponification chart, which is then used to calculate the appropriate amount of lye. Excess unreacted lye in the soap will result in a very high pH and can burn or irritate skin. Not enough lye, and the soap is greasy. Most soap makers formulate their recipes with a 4-10% discount of lye so that all of the lye is reacted and that excess fat is left for skin conditioning benefits." …. quoted verbatim.

Be careful and do the research so you do not end up with something that will burn your skin. Test the soap with pH strips first to be sure it is not of a too high pH that might burn. Perfect the recipe until you get the pH right. Ideally soaps these days if to be used for bathing should have a near neutral pH as that is what is kinder to the skin…some shop bought soaps may fall under this category [dove baby for instance may be pretty much neutral pH] but most are perhaps a little too alkaline for the skin.
    end of edit…

    Hope that helps.
