So for about 6-8 months I have had trouble sleeping through the night. I fall asleep just fine but I wake up 2-6 times. It is such an inconvenience because I am tired EVERY day. The doctor suggested melatonin but it didn’t help and I have tried a few over the counter sleep aids. I am not stessed out or anything. Anyone have similar issues and a solution?

Taking a hot shower or at least putting your feet in warm water before going to bed is supposed to help. Apparently, having warm feet is supposed to help, so wear socks to sleep. It is really difficult to fall asleep when your feet are cold.

Valerian Root helped me but I got dependant on it.
Even just using it one night, the next night I’m restless and can’t sleep.
But natural stuff is hard to find consistency in, so my valerian root supplements might have been a lot ‘stronger’ than others.

two products love are Lean Dreams (valarian root and some other goodies) and X Dream. they have worked wonders for me without feeling groggy in the AM. Just be sure to look at a few online suppliers to get the best deal.

Got you covered! Sounds like you have insomnia which is caused by a lot of things. I’ve had this problem many times.
Look for:
1) Valerian root-smells like dog poo, but you do not wake up with that "hangover" feeling
2) GABA-is the equivalent of taking an anti-anxiety medicine. It helps you to relax so it’s perfect for getting to sleep
3) Melatonin-I suggest this one third because some people do complain about waking up somewhat groggy, but my husband and I have never had that problem.
Suggestions:
Source Naturals Melatonin Complex (Sublingual)-Has both melatonin and GABA (two for the price of one!). The benefit of a sublingual is that you put it under your tongue to disolve which hits your bloodstream a lot quicker than tablets. Go to a natural foods store like Whole Foods for the best options.
Other alternatives:
Stop watching TV and playing on the internet about an hour before bed. The bright/flickering light signals your body to be awake. Make sure that noise is at a minimum.

my-mother has problems like that, it may sound weird,but it really works for her, when she wakes up at 2, 3,or 4 am, she gets a cold bagel and warm milk, they say something about the warm-milk,makes you tired?i think it sounds rather gross, but hey,it works for my mom, it wont hurt to try?good luck and sweet dreams.

Ugh- I had that same problem and it drove me nuts! I tried pills, herbs and even Ambien but nothing worked except cutting out coffee completely and having a cup of Sleepy Time tea at night.
I rarely wake up during the night now– such a relief. Since I was only drinking 1 cup of coffee, I didn’t think it would make a difference but it did immediately.

I have found that taking a magnesium 500mg capsule half hour before bedtime helps greatly. You can take it with melatonin for enhanced results, as you already have it at home.
This natural renmedy is definitely non-addictive.
Also, don’t drink any caffeinated product after 6 in the evening : coffee, tea, coke, chocolate, cocoa etc.
If you are unable to sleep, don’t try to force yourself and end up tossing and turning in bed. Turn on the bedside light and settle down for a read with a book or magazine or the newspaper or even the television.
It also helps if you set a routine and go to bed at a regular hour.

Take a warm bath before you go to sleep and do some form of meditation to get away with the daily stressors. Drinking lavender and or chamomile tea will also help you calm down. Avoid reading or watching all those things that could make you anxious. A little bit of excercise during the day would be helpful, but if you do it int he late evening that could be detrimental to the sleep cycle.
